Just 2.5 hours East of Melbourne, you’ll find some of Victoria’s finest offerings – from scenic mountain ranges, pristine beaches, beautiful wetlands, temperate rainforests and many other beautiful places, the best of nature is right at your fingertips in the heart of Gippsland. Take a stroll along Ninety Mile Beach, explore the many wonders of the Alpine National Park and wind down in the Gippsland Lake Coastal Park. We don’t call it The Middle of Everywhere for nothing. Add to that a thriving café and restaurant culture as well as an enviable selection of wineries and foodie treats, and you’ve got all you could ever need right on your doorstep.
Travelling to Sale from Melbourne
Whether you are arriving from the airport or starting in the city, the journey to Sale is a straightforward two-step process.
1. From Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine)
Since there is no direct train line from the airport to regional Victoria, you will first need to head into the city center:
Catch the SkyBus: Located right outside the arrivals terminals. These run frequently (roughly every 15 minutes) and will take you directly to Southern Cross Station.
Tickets: You can buy SkyBus tickets at the booths outside the terminal or via their app/website.
2. From Southern Cross Station to Sale
Once you arrive at Southern Cross Station, you will transition to the regional rail network (V/Line):
The Line: Look for the Gippsland Line (usually bound for Bairnsdale).
The Journey: The train trip from Southern Cross to Sale typically takes about 2.5 to 3 hours.
